When Can I Have My Period Back After Pregnancy?

During the 9 months of pregnancy, you are not to have your menstruation. But after giving birth, expect that you will be having your period after pregnancy.

However, many women are wondering when those can happen because it has been months already since she gave birth. This is very important to know because you will be informed about your cycle again which is beneficial especially if you are going to use birth controls. Period and pregnancy is really something that goes together and you must have the right knowledge to it.

Having your menstruation after seeing your new bundle of joy may happen any time that is why it is important to have stacks of sanitary napkins or tampons in your home, unless you want to rush to the nearest convenience store in the middle of the night.

You can never tell when you are going to have your period after pregnancy due to some factors like:

  1. Hormonal changes
  2. Stress
  3. Breast feeding

Also, don’t be confused from having the “lochia” or the bleeding that normally happens after giving birth because this is not your usual menstruation. This is the normal body procedure to remove the extra blood, mucus and everything inside you that was not removed during delivery. You will normally experience lochia for a maximum of 6 weeks with an intermittent flow. So don’t be mistaken by this post baby period. If you aren’t sure about this, it will be helpful if you ask your OB-Gyne about this.

Normally, if you are breast feeding your child, you are likely to have your period later than the ones who are not breast feeding. When you are breast feeding, mother produces more prolactin which enhances the production of breast milk. And this prolactin on the other hand is the one fighting osterogen which triggers the woman’s body to have menstruation.

So you don’t have to worry that much if you haven’t gotten your menstruation yet because it will definitely arrive soon. Remember – your body is still adjusting to the new addition to your family and this baby will require a lot from you. If you are already stressed with the sleepless nights after your baby arrived, you will feel more stressed out once you have your period after pregnancy wherein pms is likely to happen too which will aggravate your situation even more. So don’t rush into this one first and enjoy your baby while relaxing your body after delivery. Your body will tell you when you are ready to have your menstruation again.
